I was born in England to Australian parents and grew up largely in the Fremantle area. I was first influenced to play bluegrass music through my interest in the mandolin which I started playing at 14 years old. There was a small, but lively bluegrass scene in Fremantle which was lead by my Cowperson cohort, Jim Fisher. My musical interest has taken me through bluegrass, old time, western swing, blues, jazz and more obscure mandolin music. I currently play a locally built Wise mandolin on stage which is electrified, and record with a Gilchrist F5. I have a couple of fiddles which I play, and of course, the now famous Theremin, which I recorded on our last CD. I have returned to Perth after working in Melbourne for 12 years. I happily fell into the Cowpersons line-up, and I'm enjoying the music greatly. |
